Many of you who are reading this already know about the Eight traditional Sabbats of Wicca. Well, I follow a different set. They are celebrated on the same days, just they are for different reasons. The traditional eight Sabbats will not be listed on here because, to tell you the truth, I don't have any time to write them and I do not celebrate them and also, if you go to any Wicca/Pagan site, more than likely, the traditonal Sabbats will be on there. I guess I should tell you a little about the way I celebrate the Sabbats. Well, first off, most Wiccans celebrate the Sabbats as the God being born, the Goddess as the Maiden/Huntress and the God as the Horned One/Hunter, then the Goddess as Mother and the God as Father, then the God sacrifices Himself to ensure the next years crop and the Goddess mourns, and then the God is Resurected. Well, if you believe that way, that's great! I'm not here to conform you to my Religion. I'm just here to tell you about my Religion. The way I celebrate the Sabbats is that the Goddess Persephone is somewhat like the God just She never dies. Have you heard of the story about how Persephone was abducted by Her Uncle, Lord Hades, and brought down to the Underworld? Well, if you haven't, before you read any of this, scroll down to the link below entitled "About Persephone's Abduction". That will give you some insight about the way I celebrate the Sabbats. Well, if you do know about Persephone, read on and expand thy knowledge. The first Sabbat starting off is Eostare.
Eostare-March 21
This is the day where Persephone returns from the Underworld and all of Nature is happy and alive with Joy. Demeter and Persephone embrace and all of Nature sings and all the Plants are beginning to blossom.
Beltane-May 1
This is the day when Persephone and Demeter go about the World and spread joy and happiness. Where ever They step, a Plant brings forth Flowers and where ever they go is filled with much Happiness.
Litha-June 21 (Summer Soltice)
This is the day when the Sun shines the most and when Persephone and Demeter dance and feast. They dance with all of Nature and where ever they dance, Flowers pop up. They stay up the entire Night and you can usually see There "Glow" till early the next Morning.
Lughnasadh-August 1
This is the time when the Plants are at full bloom.
Mabon-September 21
This is the time when Persephone gets ready for the long journey back to the Underworld. Demeter and Persephone feast for many days and Nights. This is the time that the Plants ripen and the Harvests are gathered.
Samhain-October 31
This is the day when the veils between the Worlds is lifted and Persephone leaves to go to the Underworld. The Plants begin to fade away as Demeter begins to mourn the loss of Her Daughter.
Yule-December 21
This is the time when Demeter is mourning and the World is Cold from missing Persephone. Almost all the Plants have perished.
Imbolc-February 2
This is the day when the Plants begin to awaken and Demeter lets the Earth grow warmer as to prepare for Her beloved Daughter's return back to Her.
Well, as you can see, this belief system is somewhat different from the "regular" Eight Sabbats. Usually, I won't perform all of the Eight. I just try to perform Full Moon Rituals and sometimes New Moon. Well, that's all for now. When I get more time, an entire page will be dedicated to each sabbat, with various ways as to which you can celebrate them and Folk lore surrounding each. That will probably be up by the end of...... hmmmmm.... well, it will be up when I get enough time! Probably by mid February (hopefully!!!!)
